the Art Robots haunting portraits

one thing that will take a while for the robot to understand or maybe never  in my opinion will be Interpretation. Artists use artistic license to make judgments that will make the artwork easy to read. Like the illusion of mass created by an artist in a portrait maybe not exist in the photo reference.  Shadows and or unpleasant features can be removed or softened to make the picture more appealing.

Without a sense of human aesthetic the machine may never create a picture that appeals to the human eye. Robot art of the future may compensate by using photo shop style filters to mimic human artistic choices. it may blur the far edges  and sharpen the focus of focal points but it’s not a choice but a feature from a pull down menu.

A really diabolical art machine would be a image search engine that recombines existing works of art and mashes them up to create new original work .or create new works by a long dead artist using his own style . it would be in his own hand and favorite pallet. creepy and wrong feeling like seeing those those dead movie stars in soda pop commercials.  that feeling you get like someone has stepped over your grave.

I could be wrong the tricks that it taught me years to learn with a organic carbon based computer maybe repeated by silicon but we will see. Is art and music something we need machines to make?

There are some things technology can do but it’s up to us to know in our heart if it’s needed or if it’s an abomination .

Mechanized terror ……the plasma nipples of death

I  had gotten a battery powered “Robot Toy” for Christmas when I was knee high to a grasshopper Maybe the Robot was more of a cyborg?

it had the human face of an astronaut.  Human face behind glass it could have been the televised face of a remote operator. ( A Waldo as they are known in the industry)  It was the first disturbing attribute of a toy that would scare the living bejeezus out of me.

The face was grim and unfriendly like some sort of space marine.  the Robot Monsters next trick was to charge at me with menacing space battle effects noises and then it stopped. Its chest panels flew open and the thing lit up like a Christmas tree in hell. Two bizarre nipple guns began shooting sparks at me while blaring death ray sound effects at me.  I believe this space age boogeyman went by the odd sounding moniker of  Mr. Hustler made by Horikawa toys.  I have found him on E bay for $449.99 a curio shop in Glendale Arizona had the box alone for 300.00

Behold the awful nipple guns that colored my nightmares with pectoral plasma blasts!

At least that's what I have been able to find online about it . The actual toy that forever left an impression was only in my presence for minutes before being whisked away to older cousins. I would collect robot toys the rest of my life after I had gotten over the sheer terror of  Mr. Hustler.

I still collected robot toys  over the years despite my first impressions. i got this Robby style Windup at a local Robot Toy store last summer i think...
